Ten Interview Questions For The Next Big Thing

What is the working title for your book?

Answer: My Life Sentences – A True Story

Thumbnail3761402Where did the idea come from?

Where do I start describing this? In brief, this not beinga work of fiction, you would imagine it being totally different as far as ideas are concerned. This is about everything I have been through, each step of the way. The lows and the highs. After struggling through certain things in life and being fortunate enough to have what I have at the same time, I decided to share my personal story by writing a book!

What genre does your book fall under?

Non-fiction (Autobiography as many would call it).

Which character would you choose to play your character in a movie rendition?:

I thought about this really carefully and I settled with Lance Gross!

lance gross

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

That is a really tough question! Either way, I will give my best shot. I (author), had to make a decision as to whether I should continue my dreams or give up!

Was your book self-published or represented by an agency?

I decided to take the self-publishing route through both Amazon and Createspace (which is an affiliate of Amazon). There are several reasons but I will mention the obvious: It is totally free. Secondly, the royalties are 70% for ebooks and relatively higher for print! Self-publishing is the way to go if you don’t want to wait years for an agency that will pay you peanuts.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

It took a while to complete writing my first draft. That was because I kept debating whether I should actually publish my personal story for the world to see or keep it to myself. I had been dreaming of writing a book for years and when time was right, I bought some pens and a note book and started writing! Since I didn’t have to do a lot of research (everything was within my fingertips), it took me a relatively shorter time than other genres would take.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

Good question. Let me see, well, I think after going through the challenges that I went through, and still being fortunate enough or as I would say, blessed, all I had to do was to look around me, see where I had been from, and picture the future. That inspired me more than anything else.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

Do you love travelling the world? If you answered yes, then my book is based on two different continents! That is, part of it in Africa and the other part in the United States. Difference in cultures is made quite clear and all sorts of stereotypes are hands-on. Has someone ever asked you if you lived on a tree? I didn’t think so. Well, I have been asked that. Or whether I lived with wild animals like lions or cheetahs. Crazy world!

Next week, stay tuned for more posts in The Next Big Thing blog hop. :

Get Out And Vote – Voting Rights

Hi everyone,

Aren’t you glad that the election season is just 48 hours away from its end? Think of it this way: thousands of hateful commercials and attack ads. We are already watching too many fashion and car infomercials and now, every minute does not pass without hearing ‘I approve this message‘. It seems every side of the isle will say anything they can get away with and hope that the undecided Americans will buy that crap.

Now, the reason why am urging people to go vote on Tuesday or on any day before that as long as your state allows early voting is this: Not all people in this world have the freedom and right to vote. Heck, women are still, in other countries, fighting to overcome this obstacle. So, if you have that right to vote, exercise it. Most people ignore such events as taking part in elections and then later they complain after whoever is elected screws them up. The best to do is get up and cast that vote.

The most amazing part of freedom is the ability to vote for whoever you want without being forced. That sure smells good right? You see, one thing that breaks our hearts – and if you are not heart-broken at any time, good for you; when our votes seem to mean nothing, have no impact at all. What is the point of voting? Remember Al Gore and Bush? If you are a Kenyan, remember what happened in 2007 election? It gets messy when politicians refuse to concede defeat. (One west African leader once said – there are two options for us “We either win or we win“. That is not a typo. What he meant was that if he lost, he would not agree to any defeat. People died because of that evil-minded dictator.

Thank goodness, America is not that kind of nation. So, again, go vote and express yourself. This election is crucial as far as where the nation will be in 2013 and years to come.

I have tried to be neutral as far as who is better when it comes to leading this country forward. Good luck and I hope that we all have a fabulous week.

Thank you and please remember to vote or sorry, I meant subscribe to my blog and drop me some comments!

NB: All these are my personal opinions and the decision to vote and who to vote for are personal and important!

Why You Should Make It In America

Hi everyone, I hope you are doing great or perhaps better than the day before. Today, am going to point out some of the things I have in mind and particularly those that explain why you should be able to make something happen in America. Don’t get me wrong, you might give an argument against it or for another nation and I respect your opinion.

Most of us have read, heard or experienced the wildly known American Dream and honestly, sometimes it turns out to be a totally different animal to face on your own. Whether you are an American or not, I am going to share some of my own reasons why you should make it in America and I will repeat, they are my opinions and so, read them at your own risk (although there is no obvious danger resulting from it).

  • If you are the kind of foreigner that knows little about it, well, you are in for a treat. I definitely do not want to sound like some kind of a traitor or sissy for saying this but I will say it anyway. Most of us are not looking for freebies, and that is definitely the spirit you need if you want to achieve something anywhere on earth. If you sit on the couch watching the Jersey Shore on television, then you are just taking the world back. If you get off your couch, you can do something worth doing.
  • Quite often, I hear people complain about how there are no jobs and stuff like that. Really? You see, when you don’t have a job to do, make it a full time job to look for one. What about that huh? That is why America is a place where you can start from nowhere and end up somewhere. If you loose your job today, seriously search for a new one, you will find it. I am not just giving empty praises here, after all, no one pays me to say this.
  • Obviously there are other stumbling blocks to success, and that is independent of where you are. Sometimes, it is the governments and other times, yourself. Consider someone who knows very well that he or she is not ready to buy a house yet. Instead of waiting a little more, he/she jumps straight to it without thinking. When the banks come knocking at the door for mortgage default, then they start realizing that they made the wrong decision in the first place. American dream gone awry. Think first. Save, then spend!
  • Look around, if you find another place that pays Software Engineers the highest salary in the world, call me maybe, and I will see what we can do about it. Trust me on this one, I know the rent is so darn high but still worth it. If you work hard, just hard enough not to kill yourself, you will succeed. That is why I truly believe in hard-work.
  • I am not saying everybody should pack their bags and fly to the States. No. Maybe my message is not even meant for those who are not here. Maybe it is meant for my neighbors, or for myself.<3. In simple words, sometimes we overlook what we already have around us. We often look far away for what we think we need and yet we could as well look into ourselves and see how surrounded by possibilities and opportunities we are. No one will force you to work hard. No one will change how you view things. You can only be the change you dream of.
  • Finally, I must say this with a fervent heart, that we all have a role to play in this world. What is your role? (Shakespeare: ‘The world is a stage……’). If we keep blaming others for our failures, how will that help us make it anywhere? If we cannot make it here, how can we make it anywhere else? Think about how fortunate you are and then do something about it. Exeunt.

I really don’t like writing too much. I should definitely stop here. I hope you have a great day, a day filled with insight and hope. A day like no other. A better view and perspective of tomorrow. You know that you own your destiny, defend it. Goodbye.

Do We Really Have To??

Hi everybody, I hope you are doing fantastic wherever you are. I have had these thoughts for a while now and I found no genuine reason to keep them to myself. I imagined the idea that we all have things we would like to do without having to answer to anyone. Doesn’t it that sound cool, say, eat what you want without someone asking you why you are doing so? Well, that is what am going to talk about today.

  • We all have a right to talk whatever we feel like talking, be it unwelcome in our communities or not. You see, I have heard so many people use dirty languages, words that I cannot afford to mention on my blog. The biggest problem I have with such foul-mouthed people is this: what will happen if they just keep them to themselves? What is my take on this? I know we have the rights to speak our minds, but just because we do does not mean we should say anything we want. Respect is the key here, and so we should learn to exercise it.
  • Another thing is hate which is currently polluting the entire universe. Be it political or religious, it just has to stop, but how? The answer is simple. Most of us know that hate does not yield anything good. We can choose to hate others or just show some love. Hate stems from having a misguided sense of superiority and since most of us feel like we cannot compromise on anything, we fail to see the positive in others. Let us love one another, it is worth it.
  • In the current world of social media, sometimes you look at what people share online, be they photos or just comments and other types of posts, and you wonder where we lost our cool. So, am asking, where did we? Just because we can post stuff does not mean we should post things that bring us down as  a human race. We all have a genuine purpose as a people and we should do all we can to uphold that purpose.
  • It is always a good thing to exercise your marketing skills when you are with friends or strangers(perhaps you feel that they will never know that you know something). The question that keeps bugging me is whether we should be bombarding people we don’t even know with our beliefs and creeds. Just because we belief in certain religions does not mean everyone else should or else they will end up in hell…?

Simply put, just because I can be like a writing machine does not mean I should just write anything(except if what I write does not hurt anyone, hopefully). So, I will pause here before I cause trouble. Anyway, thank you for reading my blog posts and please remember to subscribe if you like it and drop me a comment because I would love to hear from you. I believe you have encountered situations like these in your life and if am wrong, forgive me and let us move on!

What Is Wrong With The Insurance Industry?

Image

Hi! I have been postponing this topic for a while now and I think that is enough! Enough also with the insurance industry craziness. Enough with the greed for money. The list might not end. Have you ever picked up your phone and dialed that 800 number or maybe your local agent to buy auto – coverage for instance? They have made it easy such that all you need is a computer, an internet connection and of course a credit card! This post might be similar to your story!

I am writing this post with great disappointment. I have been there myself, my friends have been there and many other drivers. After my car was rear – ended, you guessed it, I had to contact the insurance company of the driver who scared the life out of me. What has always surprised me is this: to get coverage, it takes less than an hour if you are savvy enough and maybe a day if you take the paper route but to file a claim and seek compensation for damages, it can take years! Talk about the number of people you have to talk to, be on hold for thirty minutes, you may even feel like killing yourself. Sometimes, you end up getting nothing in return even if you were the victim.

A friend of mine recently told me of his ordeal. He had been paying premiums for almost thirteen long years without fail. If there is one thing that I hate most, and I believe some people agree with me here, is paying a lot of money each month for something that might never happen(uncertainty is costly). This of course is not an excuse to cancel your insurance – I learned that the hard way after a ticket cost me more than I expected. Just to be on the safe side of the law, it is good to get coverage. What happened to my friend? Read on!

After all those years of paying premiums, his wife was involved in a minor accident. She hit the back of another vehicle (very slight hit) and as usual, they called their insurance agents. The damage on my friend’s vehicle was minor but you won’t believe what the insurance company told them: the vehicle was totaled(not good for use anymore)! What? They just rushed into saying so in order for the case to be closed and avoid more expenses. That is insane. In return, they promised to pay them $800 for a car that was in good condition. They told them that there were several damages on the vehicle before the accident that reduced the value by thousands of dollars. Grrrrrrrrrr!

Phone call after phone call after phone call, nothing happened. After a long time of negotiations, my friend finally agreed to a settlement. The irony is that there are no stupid negotiations while signing up for coverage, all they want is your money and after that, they are gone. Miss a month’s premium and you are doomed. The question is: is the concept of insurance (particularly for motor vehicles) a scam or the people are? I wish there was a solution to this evil act of greed. Unless you do not own a car of course, looks like we are here for a long fight.

I am done! Take care. Do Not Text and Drive … it actually kills!

In Washington: Lobbying, In Nairobi: Corruption!

Image

Hi! With the elections coming up this November in Washington, you can’t help but see all the attacks on television(you would think we have enough infomercials already) . Both sides accusing the other of outsourcing jobs, letting the rich folks pay little to no tax at all while the rest of us cry every time we get our weekly checks and more importantly live from hand to mouth – as they say! In my view, we are headed in the wrong direction.

In light of the political upheaval, I find the fact that corporations and rich individuals can pump their millions into the campaigns just sickening. I mean, come on people, why on earth does a video game company have to spend millions of dollars helping Romney? Isn’t this corruption at best? The simplest thing you can say is, look, I will donate millions to you right now and when you get elected, you must do something good to me…kickback time baby.

Here is my point friends: In Lagos(Nigeria), or Nairobi(Kenya) for instance, whenever government officials participate in somewhat fishy activities, like taking advantage of a situation and making tons of money in return, they call that corruption (and the culprits hardly get to pay for their evil acts). On the other side of the world, for example in England or Washington, when big name companies spend millions of dollars in return for favoritism in the legislation, they say, well, lobbying is allowed. It is not satanic at all. Tell me where you stand here.

I understand that there is good lobbying and then of course there is the bad and rampant type. The problem is that it seems to me that everything politicians do today is go to Washington, run from one building to another looking for lobbying firms and once they secure jobs as lobbyist, the deal is done. That is it. What went wrong with being honest with the citizens? People pay taxes, from which the elected officials get paid hefty salaries and other non-expiring privileges.  All they get is a slap in the face. Wasteful spending of the hard-earned cash. Lies.

Finally, as much as we might wish to draw a thick line between the C (corruption) word and the L (Lobbying – negative version) word, it might be reasonable to point out the fact that our leaders have and will always betray us by all means. They get bought by big oil companies, video game makers and of course Wall Street….what are we left with in the end? A corrupt system of corrupt leaders who have NOTHING to do with us. We end up paying heavily for their mistakes, we also pay for their healthcare costs for life, and so many other things we might never know! So unfortunate!

Please, if you understand the problems we are facing as a human race, regardless of your location, help stop this nonsense(unless your country is in perfect condition – call me). Do not elect politicians who are not interested in helping the nation. Vote wisely when time comes. Exercise your right, that is all I can say for now. Meanwhile, take care and see you soon!! Got comments? Let me know by leaving them below this post.

What Does It Mean, To You?

Image

Well, it is that time of the year again when I get to tell myself I am not getting any younger. I thought sharing this with you might help drive away the … feeling of actually growing old. I am not worried about it so much but I normally ask myself questions like ‘what did you achieve last year?’, ‘Are your dreams really gonna come true?’, ‘What is next in the queue?’ Those questions often go unanswered, unfortunately.

Here is my take on life so far: It is easy to hear what people say to you, the most important thing is what you know about it from experience. Some may discourage you, some may encourage you and others will have nothing to do with you. So far, I have seen, read and heard a lot about life and yet there is more to learn. The truth that I know (and it seems it should be obvious) is that as I grow older, I get to make better decisions, understand people better and face challenges with hope instead of giving up.

What is the big deal about birthdays? Well, I started celebrating(not throwing parties) when I was 22 and when I looked back, I couldn’t believe that 21 years had just slipped away without noticing. That kept me thinking, what if I just lived without worrying about how old I am, unless when I was filling up some forms or something. The reason am saying this is because perhaps we focus so much on how old we are instead of looking at the life in the years we have lived….get it? One smart person once said it is not the years in the life but rather the life in the years! I love that saying!

Anyway, I will stop here for now and continue thinking about what my next year will look like! I hope that it will be a blessed one, a brighter one, one filled with achievements, happiness, peace and love. Sometimes we strive so much for what we feel we want instead of what we really need and I do not want to do that. I want to work hard, be happy and enjoy life without forgetting the fact that there is more to it than just wanting things, overdoing things and much more.

I know one thing for sure: the day I will locate that total happiness, placing people first before my own desires, is the day I will understand what life is all about. Thank you for reading my blog. Please remember to subscribe if you like what you read. The other way to let me know that you were here is to leave a comment and often with a link to your blog of course. See you soon!
