Download My Life Sentences – A True Story for FREE

Hello! I apologize for taking a little too long to post something! I have been doing certain things (other side projects) and following the progress of my country’s election [Kenya]. I hope everything is going good for you.

Today(starting Wednesday 3/6/2013), I am going to give my book away for FREE on Amazon. I have been waiting for this for a while now and I figured I should do it now and then extend my reach to other platforms like smashwords and Barnes and Noble. So here is what I am going to do:

If you own a kindle tablet, an android tablet, a smart phone, or any other type of gadget that accepts applications, then you are all set. Oh, wait, I have to also mention the fact that you need an appetite for true stories (like the nearly 10,000 others who have read the book already). I normally tell people to read the reviews first: like these two I grabbed from Amazon:

You can also read more reviews by visiting my Amazon page before making your decision.

When you are done reading the reviews, you can grab your copy by downloading it to your device (including your computer if you don’t own the above mentioned tablets). Here is the snapshot of the book:

I hope you find this book inspiring.

Quora – The partner that never disappoints!

A friend of mine recently introduced me to Quora and I dismissed him at first. I quickly looked at the sample content he shared with me and moved on to the next email I was supposed to read. It took me a while to realize that I had made a mistake.

quora

Here is why I was missing out on some priceless information during the days that I was not using Quora: The real experience, the best answers you can get from real people, the idea that you can ask a question anonymously and get what you need, the fact that it is free for all and much more.

Assuming you have a really personal question that you cannot publicly ask someone (face to face), just hop on to Quora and within a few hours, you will receive answers. Think about anything, technology, business, life, politics among other subjects, you will not be disappointed! Instead of wasting time on  sites like Facebook or Twitter (oh no, I know you are not wasting time, sorry), Quora puts things to perspective.

There are certain questions that most humans ask themselves. Queries about life, what to do when your wife is spending two hours at the store while you are waiting in the car or what to do when you are 35 years old and feeling like crap. Most often, you will notice that by just noticing that you might have wasted so much time in your life, you have taken the first step towards self-awareness!

So, let me make this easier for everyone by shortening my post and giving you a minute to pay a visit to Quora .

Disclaimer: I have no affiliation to Quora whatsoever. I am just a loyal user whose life has been changed by the great content generated by Quora. The fact is, having the right information is not enough. Taking action is what matters. Put the two together and you will never be the same again!

Thank you.

Ten Interview Questions For The Next Big Thing

What is the working title for your book?

Answer: My Life Sentences – A True Story

Thumbnail3761402Where did the idea come from?

Where do I start describing this? In brief, this not beinga work of fiction, you would imagine it being totally different as far as ideas are concerned. This is about everything I have been through, each step of the way. The lows and the highs. After struggling through certain things in life and being fortunate enough to have what I have at the same time, I decided to share my personal story by writing a book!

What genre does your book fall under?

Non-fiction (Autobiography as many would call it).

Which character would you choose to play your character in a movie rendition?:

I thought about this really carefully and I settled with Lance Gross!

lance gross

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

That is a really tough question! Either way, I will give my best shot. I (author), had to make a decision as to whether I should continue my dreams or give up!

Was your book self-published or represented by an agency?

I decided to take the self-publishing route through both Amazon and Createspace (which is an affiliate of Amazon). There are several reasons but I will mention the obvious: It is totally free. Secondly, the royalties are 70% for ebooks and relatively higher for print! Self-publishing is the way to go if you don’t want to wait years for an agency that will pay you peanuts.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

It took a while to complete writing my first draft. That was because I kept debating whether I should actually publish my personal story for the world to see or keep it to myself. I had been dreaming of writing a book for years and when time was right, I bought some pens and a note book and started writing! Since I didn’t have to do a lot of research (everything was within my fingertips), it took me a relatively shorter time than other genres would take.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

Good question. Let me see, well, I think after going through the challenges that I went through, and still being fortunate enough or as I would say, blessed, all I had to do was to look around me, see where I had been from, and picture the future. That inspired me more than anything else.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

Do you love travelling the world? If you answered yes, then my book is based on two different continents! That is, part of it in Africa and the other part in the United States. Difference in cultures is made quite clear and all sorts of stereotypes are hands-on. Has someone ever asked you if you lived on a tree? I didn’t think so. Well, I have been asked that. Or whether I lived with wild animals like lions or cheetahs. Crazy world!

Next week, stay tuned for more posts in The Next Big Thing blog hop. :

Please check the listed sites out and take a look at their works in progress.

When am not trying really hard to learn how to play a piano or creating video tutorials for YouTube, I post stuff on my favorite social mediate sites. Please check me out and let us connect:

That should be enough for now, right? Thank you for reading this post. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me. See you soon!

Wanna Write Like A Pro?

Aside

Image

Hi! Today, I thought sharing a few tips on how to bring out the best in you as a writer might help. Last time I shared a few ideas on how to get more traffic and many people liked it. As an aspiring writer, I have come to realize that the question of writing what people want to read has always gone unanswered. Have you ever wished you wrote your articles, columns, books etc better? I know you have. Let us crack this shell. I will jump straight to the points.

  • After reading so many articles on news sites, I felt like around the corner somewhere, somebody had to say something about the shortcomings of the writers of the same. One thing you need to do before jumping onto your keyboard to write anything is your subject. Answering the ‘what am I going to write about?’ question will help you exhaust the depths of the topic. Make short notes, think through each key point and make sure that important arguments come first.
  • After mastering your concept, you are now ready to type something – but anyone can type right? The point is this: to avoid embarrassing yourself in the face of the world, plan out which paragraphs will come first. In high school, my English teacher told me that every story should have a beginning, a middle and an ending. So, what goes to the beginning of the story? Some people jump the rope quite often, spilling all the secrets in the first paragraph. That is not good.
  • In my English 102, my professor told me that I needed to introduce the readers into what is awaiting them. Doing so need care because the risk of breaking the rule is high. Using a theses statement helps to motivate the readers just enough by preparing their minds for more details later down the road. If you are writing about a recent rise in texting and driving related accidents in your local town, you don’t jump straight to last week’s incident(you might be tempted to do this thinking it will make readers hooked).
  • Assuming you have successfully hooked your readers with a great theses statement, to make it even more interesting, argue your points one by one without forgetting evidence or proof. Many people like works that have backup and of course they have to be realistic and non-exaggerated. All you are doing here is building the main body of your writing, so, make sure that everything you write flow smoothly and use connecting phrases between points and paragraphs.
  • Depending on how long your work is, make sure you avoid repetitions and any form of poor grammar. Now, say that you have finished writing out your big points and you are taking a short break, where do you go next? Since you wrote out your arguments before the break, you need to offer some viable solutions to the problems for instance caused by texting and driving. Obviously, not all types of writing have this sort of format. Regardless, remember to give proposals that are reasonable. Each problem will have one or more possible solutions in its own paragraph.
  • Almost done! You have written your arguments out, you have offered your thoughtful suggestions and now you are almost ready to close your document window. So what? Here is my take: according to my professor and as I have come to learn all these years, you need a conclusion. Make it simple and clear. Do not start writing the whole story all over again. Do not use the same words, just rephrase what your theses statement says – just remember to be clever enough not to look stupid. Ooops! You are done. Good job.

One good thing about using a template (software developers might agree with me here) is that regardless of the story you are working on, the structure will almost certainly remain the same. What you are doing is implementing it. Are you working on a book? Follow the same steps and of course add more great stuff. Are you working on column? What about a letter to your congressman or woman? All you are trying to do is to bring out the best, passing the correct information to whoever is reading your article and in the end, reducing the number of badly written stories out there. Simply, give substance to your work!

Finally, sometimes being too careful might hurt you. Often being careless will definitely hurt you. The best you can do is write an article people will thirst for more. How do you know if your work is the best? When someone reads the first chapter and they can’t wait to reach the second one and then the third one and till the end. That is enough for now. Hope you get something good from all these paragraphs I have written. If you have questions, let me know through the comments section or the contact page.

Thank you for reading. Please remember to subscribe through the home page of my blog. See you soon.

How To Make Money From eBooks

Image

Today, am out to show you some of the tested and proven ways that will move you from your couch(no offense) to the mailbox and finally to the bank! Is it that easy? Not really. After all, if it was that simple, everyone would have done it right? The good news is that you can do it today or tomorrow or well, never! Let us get started. What if you made some money from books?

It is not surprising to know that many people would rather take the easy routes when it comes to making mmmm money! Ever heard of the saying ‘Too good to be true’? You probably have, but if not, then you now know it. There are thousands of ways you could use to make a living but tonight, I will spare myself some time by talking about what I have done and worked for me. So, let us see how you could write your first book, publish and cash some royalty checks in a few months.

  • First, if you believe that everybody has a story to tell, then you probably have one yourself. If you don’t belong to that community of story tellers, well, this might not be for you after all. No offense! Now, the biggest question is this: how do you start writing a book in the first place? The answer could be found in thousands of books on how to write or simply deciding to start working on your manuscript after you finish reading this post. Here is my advice: stop postponing things and start writing a rough draft of your future bestseller. If you need help on doing that, let me know through the comments.
  • At first I was a little surprised by the fact that some people do not have word processors in their home computers. I am not surprised anymore because I have come to know that not all people can afford the software or are tech savvy enough to learn of the vast number of free equally – capable tools online. Don’t sweat it further if you are that person because I got your back. If you do not have Microsoft Word, smile and when you are done reading this post, zoom back here and check these great links out:
  1. Free Google Docs – This is one of the many things Google provides users for Free(well, to an extent). Here, after you create a free account, you can create basically any type of document you want and save it to the cloud and later access it from virtually anywhere through an internet connection. You are assured of security here, so, go for it if you need it.
  2. Microsoft SkyDrive – This is another Free tool offered by Microsoft (this is so cool because if you cannot afford Microsoft Office programs, all you need is a free account here and you are good to go). Your documents will be available to you from anywhere. All you will need is an internet connection. You don’t even need a flash drive.
  3. OpenOffice Word Editor – This is the best rival to Microsoft Office. The good part is this: It is free of charge. There are really great guys out there working so hard to bring you the best tools for the price of zero dollars. That is one of the ways we could all make this world a better place, don’t you think? Anyway, those are the few I could think of. If you have more, why not share through the comments section? Thank you. Now, back to the tips.
  • Thirdly, let us assume you have written your draft and you want to know your next step. One thing that readers hate is unedited work. I mainly think of it this way: if you do not like poor grammar, then no one else does. So, edit your book as many times as possible. You are trying to convince a stranger to spend some money and if you understand marketing, you know what am talking about. This is not rocket science. You can choose to hire a professional editor or get some of your cool friends and relatives(Warning: you might be disappointed by their criticisms and you risk losing them). Do everything you need to make your work smooth and easily readable. How much should you spend preparing your book for publishing? That is a big question. My answer is simple: Do not borrow a thousand dollar loan for it. Find people who can edit your book for the least possible. Watch out for scam artists out there who might charge you thousands of dollars for what your sister or co-worker could do for a thank you!
  • Your book, hopefully is now near ready for publishing. Where do I go from here? Well, you can choose to go the traditional route (also known as sending your manuscript to sometimes mean agents) or self-publishing (otherwise known as do – it – yourself but so cheap and 75% royalties). At the moment, I am going to focus on self-publishing on Amazon Kindle Store. The good thing about it is this: millions of people own kindle tablets and publishing is FREE. You earn royalties at rates you will never believe and your books are accessible to ….well, everyone with a Kindle all over the world?? At least that is what I know from my experience.
  • Is your book ready for publishing? If you answered yes, then visit the Kindle Direct Publishing site and start making some serious money pal. You basically have everything you need at this point to turn your dream into a reality. I did it by getting off the couch and writing(pen and paper) a chapter each night, editing several times and finally publishing My Life Sentences – A True Story and Across The River both of which are available now on Amazon. Good luck.

My final word is this: Nothing is easy in this world. The only way to draw a thick line between you and someone who says nothing can be done or you cannot be an author is by actually writing. Start tonight or after you finish your dinner or even after shower. Talking about showers, ideas normally trickle down my brain when am in the shower. Crazy. Anyway, I want to read your book in the future. Share a link here and if you have questions, ask me. What and why are you waiting for? See you soon and good luck!

Have a beautiful day everyone!

Simple Ways To Get More Traffic – Blogging 101

Image

Hi and welcome to my blog! I want to thank everyone who has visited my blog because without their visits, I would have little to no reason to write more posts. I started this blog recently and less than three and half months ago to be precise. What has surprised me most is the number of visitors and as you can see above, 6,500 hits is not a small number unless you are Lady Gaga or some really dedicated blogger (for income) or you have been in the game for a long time. Anyway, if you are an aspiring blogger or a blogger who wants to improve traffic to his/her blog, here are a few tips I would love to share!

  1. Before you start blogging, plan. Make sure that you truly have something to write about. I have learned that people rarely read nonsense, and I don’t! So, although I do not blog about a single area, I suggest you find something that you are good at and perfect it. It is like starting a business, you must find a gap before investing your time and money. Are you a photographer? Are you a programmer? Are you a farmer? Are you a politician? Answer this question!
  2. The second tip am going to share is grammar! I often run into posts littered with broken English – by this I mean poor grammar. To avoid embarrassing yourself, read through your writings several times to ensure that you have it in the right form. This is a big challenge especially if English is not your native language and most of your readers are English speakers. Trust me, not all of them are forgiving. So, make sure that you have your words right before clicking the publish button.
  3. Thirdly, be consistent with your postings. If you choose to post every two days, stick to that schedule. If you prefer once a month (not what I would do), then stick to it – especially if it takes that long to come up with the post. Who knows, maybe you have to do a month-long research before posting the conclusions. So, make sure that you are up to date with your posts. If you take too long, your readers will be gone by the time you return from exile. Next.
  4. Now, assuming you have all the above settled, what next? Ever heard of the saying ‘Do unto others what you would like them to do unto you?’ It should be common sense. If you do not read other people’s posts and comment on them, why should people read and comment on yours? There is definitely no good in being selfish. So, go forth unto the universe, look around for related content and comment on them, like them and follow them. It is very likely that if you leave a comment (and a link), someone else will come looking for you and do the same thing. One step at a time…remember?
  5. Since you cannot rely on commenting on other people’s posts to gain enough traffic (how much is enough anyway?), social networks are here to the rescue. If you really feel that you have something to share with the world, where else would you find them if not on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Reddit, Tumblr and hundreds other social networks? If you have a Twitter account, build a following and share what you have. On Facebook, Google+, Reddit and the rest, let it be known that you are present. So many people wouldn’t mind reading great posts (and not just reading but sharing too).

Hold on a second. I could continue writing but at the end of the day, you know what your goal is. We all have different ideas and so, different areas of expertise. Is it hard to create awesome blog posts? Heck yeah! Nothing happens overnight. It is just like being a published author as I have come to realize. Every genuine concept takes a good amount of time before it becomes real. The best thing you can do today is keep nurturing it. Do not spoil it, do not starve it. Good luck is my word to you. If you have a blog already, share a link below this post. I will check it out …..remember tip number 4 above? Great!

Thanks again to all my readers. Every time I look at the numbers, I feel happy. Not because I am the best blogger but because those visitors always remind me to strive to be one! I will never let you down. For now however, I will call it a night. See you soon friends! You can read my book My Life Sentences – A True Story which is currently available for Kindle. See you soon! Till we meet again, stay safe!!

The Biggest Giveaway: Day 2

Image

First, I want to say that I have been waiting for this day for quite some time now. Yes, today(Friday) is the second of my 3 Day book giveaway on Amazon Kindle Store (My Life Sentences – A True Story). It makes me feel so happy, let alone accomplished, to say that everyone who is interested in reading a true story can do just that for FREE.

I have had several instances where readers wish they had a way of reading my book if they do not own a Kindle. If you do not have a Kindle tablet or a Kindle app, you can definitely read my book without spending a dime on apps or tablets. Just do this: Go to Amazon Reading Apps  and download the free cloud reader app and after that, download my book and read it from there! That is all you need.Good luck!

I normally suggest to people to read reviews and the book description before downloading it and I think that makes it much easier for them as they make decisions as to whether they want it or not. This is a free world, isn’t it? (Freedom of choice). Disclaimer: Not all people have seen freedom yet

Now friends, let us join hands and look at my dream goal! The last time I gave away my book on Amazon, I had more than a thousand downloads by readers from all over the world in a single day. The reason I wrote my book was to inspire others, give people a different view on life and that was what I wanted. I honestly didn’t consider being number one anywhere, after all, how often does that happen? Hold on, nothing is impossible in this world. I want to achieve my dreams, not necessarily showing up on the NY Times Book List but on Amazon! We can all do this together!

Here is how: if you do not have a Kindle tablet or app, download it to your computer. Pass this link on, share with your friends through the social networks, it will mean the world to me, it will be everything I ever wanted. Help me reach that milestone and I will always be thankful! Why am I doing all these? Simple, nothing other than trying to inspire others and one way or another, make this world a better place!

I will be posting the total numbers on Sunday and I hope you will back to celebrate with me! I can’t wait.

Thank you and here is the link to my Amazon Page (NB: Books are free through Saturday)
