What Is Wrong With The Insurance Industry?

Image

Hi! I have been postponing this topic for a while now and I think that is enough! Enough also with the insurance industry craziness. Enough with the greed for money. The list might not end. Have you ever picked up your phone and dialed that 800 number or maybe your local agent to buy auto – coverage for instance? They have made it easy such that all you need is a computer, an internet connection and of course a credit card! This post might be similar to your story!

I am writing this post with great disappointment. I have been there myself, my friends have been there and many other drivers. After my car was rear – ended, you guessed it, I had to contact the insurance company of the driver who scared the life out of me. What has always surprised me is this: to get coverage, it takes less than an hour if you are savvy enough and maybe a day if you take the paper route but to file a claim and seek compensation for damages, it can take years! Talk about the number of people you have to talk to, be on hold for thirty minutes, you may even feel like killing yourself. Sometimes, you end up getting nothing in return even if you were the victim.

A friend of mine recently told me of his ordeal. He had been paying premiums for almost thirteen long years without fail. If there is one thing that I hate most, and I believe some people agree with me here, is paying a lot of money each month for something that might never happen(uncertainty is costly). This of course is not an excuse to cancel your insurance – I learned that the hard way after a ticket cost me more than I expected. Just to be on the safe side of the law, it is good to get coverage. What happened to my friend? Read on!

After all those years of paying premiums, his wife was involved in a minor accident. She hit the back of another vehicle (very slight hit) and as usual, they called their insurance agents. The damage on my friend’s vehicle was minor but you won’t believe what the insurance company told them: the vehicle was totaled(not good for use anymore)! What? They just rushed into saying so in order for the case to be closed and avoid more expenses. That is insane. In return, they promised to pay them $800 for a car that was in good condition. They told them that there were several damages on the vehicle before the accident that reduced the value by thousands of dollars. Grrrrrrrrrr!

Phone call after phone call after phone call, nothing happened. After a long time of negotiations, my friend finally agreed to a settlement. The irony is that there are no stupid negotiations while signing up for coverage, all they want is your money and after that, they are gone. Miss a month’s premium and you are doomed. The question is: is the concept of insurance (particularly for motor vehicles) a scam or the people are? I wish there was a solution to this evil act of greed. Unless you do not own a car of course, looks like we are here for a long fight.

I am done! Take care. Do Not Text and Drive … it actually kills!

In Washington: Lobbying, In Nairobi: Corruption!

Image

Hi! With the elections coming up this November in Washington, you can’t help but see all the attacks on television(you would think we have enough infomercials already) . Both sides accusing the other of outsourcing jobs, letting the rich folks pay little to no tax at all while the rest of us cry every time we get our weekly checks and more importantly live from hand to mouth – as they say! In my view, we are headed in the wrong direction.

In light of the political upheaval, I find the fact that corporations and rich individuals can pump their millions into the campaigns just sickening. I mean, come on people, why on earth does a video game company have to spend millions of dollars helping Romney? Isn’t this corruption at best? The simplest thing you can say is, look, I will donate millions to you right now and when you get elected, you must do something good to me…kickback time baby.

Here is my point friends: In Lagos(Nigeria), or Nairobi(Kenya) for instance, whenever government officials participate in somewhat fishy activities, like taking advantage of a situation and making tons of money in return, they call that corruption (and the culprits hardly get to pay for their evil acts). On the other side of the world, for example in England or Washington, when big name companies spend millions of dollars in return for favoritism in the legislation, they say, well, lobbying is allowed. It is not satanic at all. Tell me where you stand here.

I understand that there is good lobbying and then of course there is the bad and rampant type. The problem is that it seems to me that everything politicians do today is go to Washington, run from one building to another looking for lobbying firms and once they secure jobs as lobbyist, the deal is done. That is it. What went wrong with being honest with the citizens? People pay taxes, from which the elected officials get paid hefty salaries and other non-expiring privileges.  All they get is a slap in the face. Wasteful spending of the hard-earned cash. Lies.

Finally, as much as we might wish to draw a thick line between the C (corruption) word and the L (Lobbying – negative version) word, it might be reasonable to point out the fact that our leaders have and will always betray us by all means. They get bought by big oil companies, video game makers and of course Wall Street….what are we left with in the end? A corrupt system of corrupt leaders who have NOTHING to do with us. We end up paying heavily for their mistakes, we also pay for their healthcare costs for life, and so many other things we might never know! So unfortunate!

Please, if you understand the problems we are facing as a human race, regardless of your location, help stop this nonsense(unless your country is in perfect condition – call me). Do not elect politicians who are not interested in helping the nation. Vote wisely when time comes. Exercise your right, that is all I can say for now. Meanwhile, take care and see you soon!! What Does It Mean, To You?

Image

Well, it is that time of the year again when I get to tell myself I am not getting any younger. I thought sharing this with you might help drive away the … feeling of actually growing old. I am not worried about it so much but I normally ask myself questions like ‘what did you achieve last year?’, ‘Are your dreams really gonna come true?’, ‘What is next in the queue?’ Those questions often go unanswered, unfortunately.

Here is my take on life so far: It is easy to hear what people say to you, the most important thing is what you know about it from experience. Some may discourage you, some may encourage you and others will have nothing to do with you. So far, I have seen, read and heard a lot about life and yet there is more to learn. The truth that I know (and it seems it should be obvious) is that as I grow older, I get to make better decisions, understand people better and face challenges with hope instead of giving up.

What is the big deal about birthdays? Well, I started celebrating(not throwing parties) when I was 22 and when I looked back, I couldn’t believe that 21 years had just slipped away without noticing. That kept me thinking, what if I just lived without worrying about how old I am, unless when I was filling up some forms or something. The reason am saying this is because perhaps we focus so much on how old we are instead of looking at the life in the years we have lived….get it? One smart person once said it is not the years in the life but rather the life in the years! I love that saying!

Anyway, I will stop here for now and continue thinking about what my next year will look like! I hope that it will be a blessed one, a brighter one, one filled with achievements, happiness, peace and love. Sometimes we strive so much for what we feel we want instead of what we really need and I do not want to do that. I want to work hard, be happy and enjoy life without forgetting the fact that there is more to it than just wanting things, overdoing things and much more.

I know one thing for sure: the day I will locate that total happiness, placing people first before my own desires, is the day I will understand what life is all about. Thank you for reading my blog. Please remember to subscribe if you like what you read. The other way to let me know that you were here is to leave a comment and often with a link to your blog of course. See you soon!
